Delivery of upgraded BMP-2M infantry fighting vehicles has started to the Russian military base in Tajikistan. This is stated in a message distributed on Thursday by the press service of the Central Military District (CMD).
Earlier it was reported that motorized rifle units of the 201st military base will receive 17 modern infantry fighting vehicles by the end of July. The BMP-2Ms will be involved in joint exercises of the Russian Federation, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan at the training ground near the border with Afghanistan.
"Il-76 military transport aircraft arrived from Russia to the Gissar airfield to deliver modernized infantry fighting vehicles (BMP-2M) to the 201st Russian military base stationed in Tajikistan," the report said.
BMP-2M has an automatic system of fire control, allowing the commander and gunner to act as one unit day and night. The BMP-2M is also equipped with panoramic sighting and observation devices with night vision functionality. The new R-168 Akveduk radio station is installed which is able to work steadily under conditions of enemy radio-electronic influence. The BMP-2M is designed to transport soldiers to the front line, increasing their mobility, armament and protection.
