Former Pakistani Prime Minister and chairman of the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Pakistan Movement for Justice, PTI) party Imran Khan has stated that he will not leave the country despite calls from his well-wishers abroad. In a video message published earlier, Khan made it clear that he has not committed any crimes and sees no reason to leave Pakistan, as reported by the Dawn newspaper on Thursday.
Khan mentioned receiving calls from his supporters, informing him that the Pakistani military command and all political parties were against him, and that his entire party had been "imprisoned." However, he intends to challenge all the lawsuits filed against him and continue his fight. Over the past six months, 180 administrative and criminal cases have been registered against him. Khan also emphasized the need for his party's supporters, leaders and activists to sue law enforcement officials in Pakistan, alleging the use of arbitrary tactics against citizens, including family members of PTI members.
Imran Khan resigned as Prime Minister in April 2022 after a vote of no confidence by the lower house of parliament. Shahbaz Sharif, chairman of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz faction), was elected as the new Prime Minister. Since then, Khan and the PTI have been actively campaigning to regain power in the country.
