In Qatar, negotiations between the Afghan authorities and the Taliban were abolished

23 April 2019

Negotiations on an Afghan settlement between the country's authorities and Representatives of the radical Taliban organization (banned in the Russian Federation), which were to be held in Qatar, were postponed indefinitely. The reason for the cancellation was that the President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, didn’t approve the list of participants in the negotiations.

It is reported that the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies in Qatar, which organizes the negotiations included to the list 243 people as participants of the negotiations.

The Government of Afghanistan, meanwhile, has prepared its list of 250 people, which was significantly different from Qatari.

There is no any feedback about the cancellation of the talks from neither the Afghan authorities nor the Taliban yet.
