A bride in Saudi Arabia demanded that the groom present the result of a coronavirus test on the wedding day, fearing possible infection from her future husband, the Saudi newspaper al-Okaz reported on Monday.

According to the publication, the bride Widad Saad demanded that the groom show her the results of the analysis for COVID-19 just before the wedding ceremony.

She told the newspaper that she "asked her family to tell him about it out of fear of contracting the disease after one of her relatives died from complications after contracting the coronavirus." Whether the groom fulfilled her requirements, the newspaper does not specify, but writes that the wedding eventually took place.

In the Muslim countries of the Persian Gulf, it is common to conduct medical examinations for couples who are about to marry. Some doctors in Saudi Arabia consider it appropriate to include a coronavirus test in this examination, given that it can be done for free and it does not require much time and effort to pass this analysis.

In the Kingdom, in the last couple of months, there has been a steady increase in the number of cases of coronavirus infection in the region of 1.5-2 thousand people per day. In total, since the beginning of the pandemic in Saudi Arabia, more than 308.5 thousand cases of the disease have been detected, 282,888 people have recovered, and the number of deaths is close to 4 thousand.
