A blast has taken place at Kocaeli port in Turkey, leading to injuries sustained by 13 individuals, according to statements from Ahmet Guldal, the head of the Soil Products Directorate.
"Thirteen people were injured, one of whom was rescued from the debris following the explosion," he informed A-haber TV.
Prior to this, Seddar Yavuz, the provincial governor, had informed A-haber TV that the count of injured individuals from the explosion had reached 10, with two of them being in critical condition. According to Yavuz, the incident happened while grain was being loaded onto the ship within the elevator. Prior to these reports, a source from TASS at the port had indicated that a minimum of five people had suffered injuries due to the explosion.
"Officials have confirmed that five individuals sustained injuries. The explosion took place at a grain elevator owned by the Soil Products Authority, likely during the loading of grain onto a ship. The reasons behind the explosion remain uncertain and are currently under investigation by the appropriate authorities," stated the agency's source.
The A-haber TV channel has conveyed that the force of the explosion was significant enough to shatter windows in houses situated in the vicinity of the port, leading to panic among the local residents.
Thick plumes of smoke were visible from various areas of the city.
