Indonesia is interested in developing cooperation with Russia in the energy sector, including the transfer of petrochemical technologies and the implementation of oil refining projects. Indonesian Ambassador to Moscow Jose Tavares said this on Thursday at the second Eurasian Economic Forum.

"Of course, we are interested in cooperation with Russia in the energy sector. We have a big project in Tuban, a megaproject. And direct negotiations are going on now <...> There is an initiative for the technology transfer in the field of petrochemistry, there are also projects in the field of oil refining. We receive oil directly from Russia, so we are very interested in this, there is a huge potential here," he said.

In addition, the ambassador noted that Jakarta is also interested in renewable energy sources. "We are looking at renewable energy sources. Of course, fossil fuels are still relevant and will be for decades to come, but as ambassador on the Jakarta side, I would suggest that my Russian partners also work together and negotiate in order to agree on a favorable environment for our cooperation," the diplomat pointed out.

"We can develop regional energy projects, we can get experience and technology from Russia. We have a lot of sunlight, we have a lot of solar energy throughout the year, and if Russia can share the solar panel technology with us, it can be a huge business, a profitable business for the companies that will work on these projects," Tavares concluded.
