Indonesian Embassy in Russia: there are no plans to tighten entry rules for Russians

16 January 2023

Indonesia has no plans to tighten entry rules for Russian citizens related to the coronavirus pandemic, the Indonesian embassy in Russia told TASS.

"Indonesia has no new rules concerning immigration and medical protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic," the diplomatic mission said in response to the agency's question about whether Indonesia plans to tighten restrictions on Russians entering the country.

The embassy specified that all foreign nationals, including Russians, who will enter the country must provide a certificate of a second dose of COVID-19 vaccination at least 14 days before departure. "The document must be written in English in addition to the language of the country of origin in order to have permission to enter Indonesian territory," the diplomatic mission added.

Russians are not required to provide a negative PCR test result, but must be tested for COVID-19 symptoms, including measuring body temperature at entry checkpoints.

The requirement to provide a certificate of vaccination against COVID-19 does not apply to citizens under the age of 18, as well as those who have a certificate of recovery from COVID-19 or who have medical contraindications to vaccination. In addition, exemptions apply to citizens holding diplomatic or official visas for formal visits by their foreign officials at the ministerial level and above, as well as foreign nationals entering Indonesia under the Travel Corridor Arrangement, in accordance with the principle of reciprocity.

Visa upon arrival

The embassy clarified that during the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a circular letter from the General Directorate of Immigration of 2022 on the immigration mechanism to support sustainable tourism.

According to the rules, Russians can enter and visit Indonesia, using visa upon arrival for the purpose of tourism. It is issued on providing a passport valid for at least six months, a return ticket or a travel ticket to another country, proof of payment of visa fee upon arrival costing 500 thousand Indonesian rupiah (about $34).
