The consequences of the military operation in Ukraine are being felt around the world, with developing countries suffering the most. Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said this on Friday at a meeting of G20 foreign ministers.
"We are meeting with you at a time of serious challenges. The world has not yet recovered from the pandemic. But we are already facing another crisis: the war in Ukraine. The consequences are being felt around the world, in food, energy and fiscal spaces," she said.
According to the head of the foreign ministry, "as always, developing countries and low-income countries are the hardest hit". In this regard, the minister called for an "end to the war" as soon as possible.
"Global challenges require a global solution, frankly, we cannot deny that it has become harder for the world to sit together to solve problems", the foreign minister continued. "This is the first time we are here together to discuss important things, hopefully through discussions we can find ways to move forward," the minister said, noting the "extraordinary efforts of some of the participants who chose to come to this meeting." "Your presence demonstrates support for Indonesia's G20 presidency," Retno added.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation on February 24 in response to a request for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow's plans did not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories and that the goals were the demilitarization and denazification of the country. In response, the West began to impose sanctions against Russia in stages. At the same time, Western states began to supply Kiev with weapons and military equipment worth billions of dollars at this stage
