18 November

President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto announced that he has advocated for Indonesia's membership in BRICS since 2014.

“In 2014, during my presidential campaign, I declared my intention to lead Indonesia into joining BRICS,” Jakarta Globe quoted the president as saying.

Subianto, who assumed office on October 20, shared that one of his first actions was to dispatch Foreign Minister Sugiono to the BRICS Summit in Kazan. “We want to join the BRICS nations. We see this as a critical new pillar in the emerging global economy,” he explained.

On October 25, Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that during the BRICS Outreach/BRICS Plus meeting at the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Indonesian representatives expressed a clear intention to join the group. On October 29, Subianto reiterated the importance of Indonesia's integration into BRICS.

On November 15, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin announced that Indonesia, along with Malaysia and Thailand, had officially become BRICS partners.
