Today, the International Conference "Orthodoxy and Islam – Inter-Confessional Dialogue in Achieving Global Peace" started its work in Moscow, the main goal of which is to unite the efforts of state, religious, public, educational and scientific structures in the development of dialogue between the two religions.
The event started with an address by Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Chairperson of the GSV "Russia - Islamic World". The greeting address was read by Farit Mukhametshin, Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.
In his greeting to the participants, Minnikhanov noted that the conference takes place in the memorable year of the 1,100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria.
"The events timed to commemorate the 1,100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam united Russian Muslims and determined the vector of the development of inter-confessional dialogue in the country."
The president of Tatarstan also noted that the meeting of the GSV in 2022 was held in the Republic of Tatarstan, where representatives of different nations and confessions live.
Public, political and religious figures from Russia and foreign countries, as well as representatives of the World Muslim Communities Council (UAE), the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the Interfaith Council of Russia, the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Bulgarian Islamic Academy and the Russian Islamic Institute are expected to participate in the conference in online and offline formats.
