Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said in a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov that he is against the presence of "foreign forces in the region." This was said in a statement published Sunday on the Telegram channel of the Islamic republic's foreign ministry.
"Knowing the interconnectedness of security in the region, we believe that Azerbaijan's security affects the security of the region and Iran. We have stated that we oppose any deployment of foreign forces because it is against peace, stability and cooperation in the region," Abdollahian said.
At the same time, the statement said, Bayramov disagreed with the opinion of his Iranian counterpart "on the issue of deployment of foreign forces in the region."
