Iran considers eastward expansion of NATO dangerous

06 October 2022

NATO's eastward expansion is dangerous, Iran stands for stability and security in the region, Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber said Thursday at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

"We, of course, are in favor of stability and security in the region. I want to say that NATO's expansion to the East is dangerous," Mokhber said.

Referring to tensions in the region, he noted that Tehran sees NATO's presence in the region as the cause.

Mokhber also thanked Russia for its efforts to reinstate the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and remove sanctions imposed on Iran. "[We are grateful] for Russia's stance on supporting our position in the area of those accusations that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA - TASS) is making against us," Mokhber added.
