Iran favors visa-free regime with Russia - Iranian Ambassador to Russia

23 June 2023

Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said Tehran favored a visa-free regime with Russia.

"We support abolishing visas altogether so that our citizens do not need visas to travel to the two states," he told TASS on Friday on the sidelines of the Second International Altai Forum.

The ambassador noted that Tehran and Moscow had agreed to abolish group tourist visas starting January 1, 2023, "but the process has been stalled, as both countries had to submit a list of relevant travel companies." "These companies have been presented recently, and hopefully we will witness visas for group travel of our citizens being cancelled," he said.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Economic Development Minister Dmitry Vakhrukov told reporters at the International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum 2023" that visa-free travel to Russia for groups from Iran could be launched this summer.
