Iran invited US to continue negotiations on nuclear deal to reach agreement

23 June 2022

The Iranian side calls on the US to return to the negotiation process for the sake of reaching an agreement on the nuclear deal. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said this on Thursday at a press conference following the talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Tehran.

"We will continue to pursue a diplomatic approach because it is the right one," he said. - We once again call on the US to take a realistic approach for the sake of a fruitful conclusion of the negotiation process.

The Minister also criticized the resolution adopted at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, calling it wrong. "We thank China and Russia for opposing the resolution put forward at the IAEA at the initiative of the United States and three European countries (Great Britain, France and Germany - TASS note)," he said.

On 8 June, a majority of the 35 member states of the IAEA Board of Governors voted in favor of the resolution on Iran, which criticizes it for failing to clarify the origin of uranium particles at three undeclared sites. China and Russia voted against it.

Lavrov arrived in Tehran on Wednesday as part of an official two-day visit. The Minister was received by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on the first day and held talks with the Iranian Foreign Minister on the second day.
