The Drug and Food Control Organization under the Iranian Ministry of Health has issued a permit for the use of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, according to the regulator's representative Kianoush Jahanpour.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said during a visit to Moscow that the Russian Sputnik V vaccine successfully passed registration in Iran and Tehran hopes to begin joint production with Russian participation in the near future.
"Permission has been granted for the urgent use of the Sputnik V vaccine by the Gamaleya Research Institute," the official wrote on Twitter, adding that this followed a meeting of the organization's commission that determines the suitability of manufactured and imported medicines.
According to him, Iran is currently continuing to study other vaccines from India, China and Russia.
Earlier, Jahanpour, who is also the head of the public relations department of Iran's Ministry of Health, told RIA Novosti that Tehran is studying the Russian vaccine EpiVakKorona as well as the vaccine of foreign company AstraZeneca, which can be produced in Russia.
