Iran plans to conduct drills in north Indian Ocean

Iran plans to conduct drills in the northern part of the Indian Ocean. Iranian Admiral Habibollah Sayyari made such a statement on Thursday.

 

"Iran is planning to conduct military drills in the eastern part of the Strait of Hormuz up to the 10th parallel of the northern latitude in the northern part of the Indian Ocean tonight (December 29 - TASS)," he was quoted by the Mehr news agency as saying. - "In addition to naval forces, various parts of the ground forces will take part in the exercise, air defense systems and strategic bombers of the air force."

 

As the goals of the training, the admiral cited improving the level of skills in planning and conducting joint operations of different branches of Iran's Armed Forces. In addition, Sayyari emphasized, in the course of the maneuvers the conduct of military operations in special conditions, including in a contaminated environment, will be practiced.

 

On October 12, the Islamic republic conducted joint naval exercises with Oman in the northern part of the Indian Ocean. The maneuvers were held in the territorial waters of Oman. The Iranian side was represented by naval destroyer Alborz and catamaran Shahid Nazeri, as well as the combat ship Shahid Yahya, which is in the inventory of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (the elite army units of Iran). In addition, helicopter units of the two countries were involved in the exercises.

 

In the course of the maneuvers, various scenarios of interaction between the naval and aerospace forces of the states were practiced.
