Iran Proposes Creation of Special Security Structure Within BRICS

11 September

Ali Akbar Ahmadian, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, has proposed the establishment of a special security structure within BRICS. A video recording of his speech at a BRICS+ meeting of high-level representatives responsible for security, held in Saint Petersburg, was published by the Tasnim news agency.

“My specific proposal is to create a BRICS special structure to counter common threats, such as terrorism, extremism, the development of biological weapons, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and the illegal use of innovative technologies like artificial intelligence and satellite systems. This structure would also aim to build shared capabilities for ensuring security in cyberspace and maritime transport,” Ahmadian emphasized. He added that, in addition to economic cooperation, BRICS members could collaborate successfully in the field of security and establish a new global system.

On September 10, IRNA reported that during his stay in Russia, the Iranian security chief would also meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu and representatives of security agencies from other BRICS member states.
