President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi said that his country intends to join BRICS in order to participate in creating a multipolar world. He said this on Tuesday in an interview with the Lebanese TV channel Al Mayadeen.

"After joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, we decided to apply to BRICS and are preparing to join this group of countries," the Iranian politician said. - "We condemn the unipolar arrangement that allows the US and three or four other powers to consider themselves rulers of the world."

According to Raisi, joining the SCO, thanks to good relations with China and Russia, has benefited Iran and opened the way to international markets. He pointed out that the United States "sought to isolate Iran and prevent it from participating in the SCO, but failed."

"We extend a hand of friendship to any country that is willing to cooperate with us," Raisi stressed. - "Iran seeks constructive relations with all states based on common interests."

On June 27, 2022, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh announced that his country, along with Argentina, had applied to join the BRICS.
