Iran has strongly condemned the recent military strikes by the United States and the United Kingdom on Yemen, calling them a threat to regional peace and stability. The statement was made in a letter from Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, addressed to the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the recent military aggression and the unlawful use of force by the United States and the United Kingdom against Yemen. These actions blatantly violate Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, contradict international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council resolutions, and pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability," the letter stated.
The condemnation follows US airstrikes on March 15, ordered by President Trump, targeting Houthi positions in Yemen. The US Central Command described the operation as a measure to protect American interests and ensure freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
In response, Houthi forces launched two separate attacks on the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier in the northern Red Sea, using missiles and drones.
According to the Houthi-controlled Ministry of Health, the US strikes resulted in 53 deaths and at least 98 injuries.
