Iran has implemented measures at its Natanz and Fordow nuclear facilities following a new resolution from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, which criticized Tehran for insufficient cooperation. This was reported by Iran's Mehr news agency. These steps are seen as a reaction to what Tehran perceives as "hostile actions" by the UK, Germany, and France, who introduced the resolution deemed by Iran as politicized and confrontational.
The resolution, adopted on June 5 with 20 votes in favor and opposition from Russia and China, did not specify the exact measures taken by Iran at the nuclear sites. Natanz and Fordow are known for their involvement in uranium enrichment processes. This move follows IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi's statement on June 3 about the agency not receiving credible explanations from Tehran regarding the discovery of uranium traces at two undeclared sites.
In response to the resolution, Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, warned that Tehran would take corresponding measures if the resolution passed. The Iranian government has repeatedly emphasized that a politicized approach by the IAEA undermines the technical agreements and negotiations concerning its nuclear program.
On June 5, a joint statement from Russia, China, Belarus, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Iran, Nicaragua, and Syria criticized the resolution for ignoring Tehran's cooperation with the IAEA, urging a rational and non-political approach to resolving the Iranian nuclear issue.
