Iran to Collaborate with Russia at UN Security Council Debate on Middle East

17 July

Iran has announced its intention to collaborate closely with Russia at the upcoming UN Security Council (UNSC) debate focusing on the situation in the Middle East region. Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, Ali Bagheri Kani, confirmed this following discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

“We are planning to work together during the UN Security Council session addressing the Palestine issue, scheduled for Wednesday,” reported Iran's IRNA news agency, quoting Bagheri Kani.

The debate, to be presided over by Lavrov on July 17, will center on various topics, including bilateral relations and economic cooperation. Highlighting global concerns, the discussions will address the crimes and atrocities committed by the Israeli government in the Gaza Strip, with a focus on strategies to promptly and unconditionally halt these acts of genocide.

Bagheri Kani emphasized the significance of continuous consultations between Iran and Russia, given their status as neighboring nations with multifaceted relations. “Our countries share diverse areas of engagement, necessitating ongoing discussions to address regional and global challenges,” he stated.

The Russian Foreign Ministry had previously confirmed Lavrov's meeting with his Iranian counterpart to discuss bolstering ties between Moscow and Tehran, as well as the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

These discussions took place in New York on the sidelines of the UNSC open debate on enhancing multilateral cooperation to establish a more equitable, democratic, and sustainable global order.
