Iran to launch mass production of Russian vaccine against coronavirus

Iran will launch the production of a new type of Russian coronavirus vaccine for its mass use in the country. This was announced by Mahmoud Vaezi, the head of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's administration.


According to him, production will begin in accordance with an earlier agreement with Russia.


"Iran will start producing the Russian coronavirus vaccine," Vaezi was quoted as saying by IRNA news agency on Friday. - "This project will be carried out in accordance with an agreement previously reached between Iran and Russia on the matter. Iran has decided to use a set of different vaccines for the vaccination campaign, including Russian, Indian and Chinese vaccines as well as its own production. The Iranian government has no preference for any of them, the main thing is that the vaccination campaign should save the lives of Iranians".


Earlier, the Iranian Ambassador in Moscow Kazem Jalali stated that Iran and Russia had agreed to jointly produce the Russian vaccine against the coronavirus Sputnik V. The parties have already signed an agreement to supply Iran with the Russian vaccine, two batches of which arrived in Tehran on February 4 and 12.
