Iranian Vice President Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini has voiced support for the initiative undertaken by Iranian universities to welcome students expelled from American and European universities due to their involvement in pro-Palestinian actions. He expressed this endorsement during a meeting with faculty members of Shahid Bahonar University in Kerman.
In remarks quoted by the ISNA news agency, Hosseini stated, "Undoubtedly, this initiative is a commendable step toward promoting justice and combating the infringement of freedom of expression, which will have a positive impact on both the Islamic world and the West."
Several Iranian universities, including Shahid Beheshti University, Shiraz University, and Shahid Bahonar University in Kerman, announced their readiness to admit students from the US and Europe who had been expelled for their participation in pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Seyed Mahmoud Aghamiri, the dean of Shahid Beheshti University, outlined that these students would be offered scholarships, with the Iranian side covering their tuition and living expenses in full.
Across American universities, mass demonstrations in support of Palestine and against US policies in the Middle East have been ongoing. These peaceful protests have frequently culminated in clashes with law enforcement and pro-Israeli activists. Demonstrators are calling for an end to financial aid and arms shipments to Israel, particularly amidst its military operations in the Gaza Strip. According to US media reports, over 1,500 individuals have been detained by US police during pro-Palestinian demonstrations. The surge in detentions began on April 18, following a request by Columbia University's rector, Minoush Shafiq, to New York police to disperse protesters from the university's campus. This action led to the detention of over 100 individuals on the Manhattan campus and sparked further protests nationwide.
