14 September 2023

Iranian Foreign Minister Hosein Amir Abdollahian had a telephone conversation with his Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan. During the conversation, Abdollahian expressed Iran's stance that the presence of foreign forces in Transcaucasia is unacceptable. This information was shared by the Iranian MFA on its social media page, X (formerly Twitter).

Commenting on the joint military exercises between the US and Armenia, Abdollahian referred to the presence of foreign forces as "the cause of complicating the situation in the region." The Iranian foreign minister emphasized that differences among South Caucasus countries should be resolved within the framework of the "three plus three" format, which includes the participation of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Russia, and Turkey.

Earlier, the Armenian Defense Ministry had announced that the Eagle Partner 2023 joint military exercises with the United States were taking place in the country from September 11 to 20.
