Iranian Foreign Ministry summons Charge d'Affaires of Afghanistan

The chargé d'affaires of Afghanistan to Iran was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday. According to Fars news agency, he was strongly protested and announced that the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Kabul was suspended until further orders.


Earlier, rallies were held in front of the Iranian embassy in Kabul and the consulate general in Herat, the diplomatic missions were thrown stones. The chargé d'affaires ad interim of Afghanistan in Iran was reminded of the responsibility of the host government to ensure the security of foreign diplomatic missions. Iran's foreign ministry called on Afghanistan to prosecute those who attacked the Iranian embassy and consulate general.


On Monday, residents of Herat held a protest against the harassment of Afghan refugees and migrants in Iran. Several hundred people took part in the demonstration.


On April 7, the Afghan TV channel TOLO News reported that Afghan refugees in Iran have complained about the worsening conditions of their stay in the country. Many of them have no documents, including visas. It was noted that videos were circulating in social networks, showing that "Afghan refugees are being persecuted and tortured in Iran". In turn, the Islamic Republic's embassy in Kabul denied this information, calling it unreliable.
