Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has arrived in South Africa to participate in the BRICS summit, as reported by Iran's Tasnim news agency. His presidential aircraft touched down in Pretoria, where Raisi is set to address the Friends of BRICS Plus Dialogue and engage in meetings with leaders from various countries.

The BRICS group consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The summit is being held in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24. A total of 22 countries have formally applied for BRICS membership, reflecting the growing interest in joining the association. Host country South Africa's Foreign Minister, Naledi Pandor, has mentioned that the BRICS leaders have reached an agreement outlining the principles for accepting new members. A recent report by Geneva correspondent Jamil Chade from the Brazilian portal UOL, citing a draft final document from the summit, indicated that Argentina, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are set to become new members of the BRICS association.
