Iranian President Calls Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed Tehran's full-scale accession to BRICS in a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi, as reported by the Kremlin press service.

 

"Ebrahim Raisi expressed gratitude for the support extended to Iran's bid for full membership in BRICS. They discussed measures to facilitate Iran's seamless integration into the comprehensive activities of the association, particularly considering Russia's upcoming chairmanship in 2024," the statement explained.

 

Situation in Karabakh

 

Putin also briefed President Raisi on the operations of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Karabakh. "A comprehensive discussion took place regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh situation and the challenges in normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Vladimir Putin provided updates on the Russian peacekeeping contingent's efforts, which encompass humanitarian aid distribution to civilians and safeguarding the rights and security of Nagorno-Karabakh's Armenian population," the statement reports.

 

It is emphasized that both presidents of Russia and Iran "underscored the critical significance of resolving all matters solely through peaceful, political, and diplomatic channels."

 

Work of "3+3" platform

 

Putin and Raisi expressed their support for the revitalization of the "3+3" platform. "Both leaders conveyed their mutual interest in enhancing the functionality of the consultative regional platform '3+3,' consisting of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Iran, and Turkey," stated the press release.

 

The conversation was initiated by the Iranian side.
