Iranian President to visit Turkey and Syria

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi plans to visit Turkey and Syria, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said on Monday.


"The president of Iran is scheduled to visit Turkey and Syria," ISNA news agency quoted him as saying. - "These visits will take place after plans are finalized."


The foreign ministry spokesman did not say the date of the planned visits. Details of the program of expected visits of Raisi have not been provided yet.


Iran and Turkey, along with Russia, make up the Astana troika of countries that guarantee a peaceful settlement in Syria. On November 23, the last meeting in the Astana format was held, following which Russia, Iran and Turkey reiterated that the conflict in Syria has no military solution, supported the territorial integrity of the republic and rejected "all attempts to create new realities on the ground," and condemned the activation of terrorist groups. The next meeting in the Astana format in the Kazakh capital, which will be the 20th in a row, is scheduled for the first half of 2023. Russia is also expected to host the troika summit.
