Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has criticized the request made by the UK, France, the US, and three other countries to hold a closed-door session of the UN Security Council (UNSC) to discuss Iran’s increasing uranium enrichment levels.
"Holding a closed Security Council meeting at the request of certain countries is a new and strange practice. This meeting raises doubts about the goodwill of the countries that requested it," Araghchi’s press office quoted him as saying.
"We hope that the Security Council will fulfill its primary mission—maintaining peace and security—and will not succumb to the influence of certain countries," he added.
On March 11, Reuters reported, citing sources, that the UNSC would hold a closed session on March 12 to discuss Iran’s growing stockpile of enriched uranium. According to the sources, the meeting was requested by three permanent Security Council members—the UK, France, and the US—as well as Greece, Panama, and South Korea.
