Iran received indications of a potential Israeli strike on its territory the evening before the attack took place, according to Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi.
“We received signals pointing to the possibility of an attack on the evening prior, which convinced us that an assault was imminent. Messages were exchanged with various parties, and we took the necessary precautionary steps before the strike,” Araghchi stated, as reported by the Mehr news agency. He added that Iran intends to respond to Israel in due course.
On October 26, Israeli military forces confirmed airstrikes on Iranian military facilities, claiming the strikes were in retaliation for “repeated and continuous attacks.” According to Iran's air defense forces, military sites in the provinces of Ilam, Tehran, and Khuzestan were targeted, though damage was reportedly limited. Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi stated that the strikes aimed at Iran's strategic systems used only a fraction of Israel's capabilities.
Araghchi emphasized the previous day that Iran would act without restraint to defend its territorial integrity, as demonstrated on multiple occasions.
Earlier, on October 1, Iran launched a massive missile strike on Israel. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed the attack was in retaliation for the assassination of Hamas political bureau head Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah.
