Iran's Supreme Leader has assessed the likelihood of a war with the United States

15 May 2019

Iran will continue to resist the US, but there will be no war. The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared this against the background of aggravation of relations between the two countries.

“The categorical choice of the Iranian nation is the resistance of the United States, and in this confrontation the United States will be forced to retreat. The confrontation is not a military one, there are no grounds for war”, as on his official website Khamenei's words are given.

In his opinion, no one wants war neither Tehran nor Washington. The current aggravation of relations between Iran and the United States is a “clash of wills” between the two countries, where Iran will be stronger.

Earlier, the United States sent the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln and several bombers to the shores of Iran, saying that it was “a signal to the Iranian regime that any attack on the interests of the United States or our allies would be met with ruthless force”.
