Iraq and Lebanon can join the “Astana process” on Syria

Russia, Turkey and Iran have agreed to connect Iraq and Lebanon to the “Astana process” on Syria. According to RIA Novosti, the negotiations are taking place these days in the capital of Kazakhstan.

 

 

“Turkey has no objections. It is obviously, the guarantors have already agreed on this”, the agency interlocutor said, answering the relevant question.

 

 

Earlier, Tehran is in favor of including these countries as neighbors of Syria as observers at the talks, Ali Asgar Haji claimed, Assistant Head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Head of the Iranian Delegation at the Nur-Sultan negotiations.

 

 


Intersyrian negotiations in Astana have started the day before. The Delegations of Russia, Turkey and Iran (the guarantors of the Astana process), as well as Representatives of the official Damascus, the Syrian opposition and the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General Geir Pedersen participate in them.
