Iraqi intelligence chief talks about IS decline

05 June 2019

The Islamic State terrorist organisation - also known as Daesh (banned in the Russian Federation) - has lost its strength due to the losses incurred, including among the leadership, said the head of the Iraqi military intelligence, director of the coordination center (Russia, Syria, Iraq and Iran) Saad Muzher Al-Allak, - writes RIA Novosti.

“Cells of the terrorist group are not able to resume their activities in the liberated areas, as it was before,” he said. “The reason for this is the losses incurred in the battles with the security forces, during which most of the Daesh ringleaders were killed and the moral and psychological state was broken.”

According to Al-Allyak, in their operations, the terrorists began to focus on sleeping cells in those areas of Iraq where they feel relatively free.

"The group lost its ability to hold territory, but began to adhere to the principle of "cat and mouse"," said the head of Iraqi intelligence service.

The specialist noted that after a series of operations by the security forces, the members of the Islamic State terrorist organisation are divided. He also said that, according to the latest intelligence information, the Daesh leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, is moving across the border area between Syria and Iraq, desert areas of Iraq, in the province of Homs and in those parts of the border with Turkey where there are no armed forces.
