Islam's main shrines in Mecca and Medina will remain closed during Ramadan

The main shrines of Islam – the Great Mosque of Mecca and the Mosque of the Prophet in Medina-will remain closed throughout the month of Ramadan, the Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques’ Affairs said on Twitter.


"The opening of two shrines is being delayed for the month of Ramadan as part of preventive measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus," the report said.


The Great Mosque and the Mosque of the Prophet were closed on March 20, complete disinfection of them was held.


The number of cases of the coronavirus infection in Saudi Arabia, according to the latest data, exceeded 10 thousand people. 103 people died.
