09 October 2020

Sooronbay Jeenbekov expressed his readiness to resign from the post of President of Kyrgyzstan immediately after the approval of legitimate leaders, as well as after the country's return to the path of legality, according to a statement published on the president's website.

He stressed the need to return the situation to the legal sphere as soon as possible. "Once the legitimate leaders of the executive branch are approved and the country is on the path of legality, I am ready to step down from the post of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic," he said.

"The political situation in the country has reached a critical point. To resolve the situation, we must take the following steps. The results of the elections to the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament - TASS) have been annulled. Now new parliamentary elections must be scheduled. The CEC will decide on this matter. These measures will reduce the current political tension," the statement said.

"At the same time, it is necessary to send the resignation of the Prime Minister and members of the government who worked before the crisis, which will create legitimate grounds for new appointments. The Jogorku Kenesh decree and a presidential decree are needed to legitimize the appointment of a new prime minister and government members. I am ready to sign the relevant decrees, I am waiting for the Jogorku Kenesh decisions," the President stressed.
