Jordan called for an emergency meeting of the Arab League on Wednesday over Israeli actions on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The kingdom's foreign ministry announced this on Wednesday.
"Jordan, in coordination with its brothers in the State of Palestine and Egypt <...> called today for an emergency meeting of the League on the level of permanent representatives amid the events that took place in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque," the ministry said in a statement posted on its Twitter page. It noted that Jordan, in coordination with Arab countries, will take all steps to stop the dangerous escalation.
The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported on Tuesday that Israeli security forces stormed the Al-Aqsa mosque using stun grenades and tear gas, as well as rubber bullets and batons. According to the Lebanese channel Al Mayadeen, more than 400 people were detained. Meanwhile, Israeli police reported Wednesday that dozens of masked young individuals barricaded themselves inside the mosque, beginning to chant slogans and call for unrest. Police then had to enter the temple compound.
