Jordan's King Warns that Ongoing Arab-Israeli Conflict Could Trigger Regional Destabilization

25 October 2023

Jordan's King Abdullah II expressed concern that the ongoing armed conflict between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas could potentially lead to a broader regional conflict in the Middle East. He shared these concerns during discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron, who was visiting Amman.

"The ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip has the potential to escalate the situation across the entire Middle East region. It is absolutely crucial to bring this conflict to an end, and the international community must take immediate steps in that direction," stated the monarch, as reported by the Petra news agency.

"The international community must take swift action to exert pressure on Israel, urging an end to the ongoing conflict, the protection of civilians, and the lifting of the blockade on the Gaza Strip," added Abdullah II. He further emphasized the alarming deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the region and underscored the significance of delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The Jordanian king also reiterated his strong opposition to any attempts to relocate or forcibly displace the population in the enclave.
