Kabulov Affirms Prospects for CSTO Collaboration with Afghanistan

04 June

According to Zamir Kabulov, the Special Representative of the Russian President for Afghanistan and Director of the Second Asian Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) may potentially collaborate with Afghanistan, a development that holds promising prospects.

In a recent briefing, Kabulov indicated that although no such cooperation currently exists between the CSTO and Afghanistan, he does not dismiss the possibility altogether. "We share common ground with the Taliban (banned in Russia) in combating international terrorism and curbing drug-related crimes," he explained. "On this shared foundation, collaboration becomes entirely feasible," the diplomat elaborated when discussing the potential for Afghanistan's engagement with the CSTO.

Previously, Kabulov had mentioned Russia's intention to broaden its cooperation with the Taliban, now in control of Afghanistan, encompassing efforts to counter terrorism and reinforce law enforcement institutions.
