Kabulov: inter-Afghan meeting in Beijing may take place before year-end.

20 November 2019

Moscow expects the intra-Afghan meeting in Beijing to be held before the end of this year,  Special Presidential Envoy for Afghanistan and Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Second Asian Department Zamir Kabulov told TASS today.

"We believe that this can happen in the near future, perhaps, this month.  I am ready to participate," the diplomat said.

A specific date, according to Kabulov, has not been agreed yet. The Chinese side is coordinating the list of participants from Afghan authorities.

In October, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said that Beijing would provide comprehensive support for a peaceful settlement in Afghanistan. On November 11, Geng Shuang informed that Beijing is preparing a platform for intra-Afghan negotiations, which previously were held in Moscow and Doha with the participation of the Taliban group (outlawed in Russia).
