The Russian President's Special Representative for Afghanistan and Director of the Second Asian Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Zamir Kabulov, at a meeting with a delegation from the Qatari political office of the Taliban movement (banned in Russia), called for the rapid launch of meaningful inter-Afghan negotiations leading to end the civil war and the formation of an effective government. The Russian Foreign Ministry said this in a statement issued on Thursday.

"During the event, the Russian side spoke in favor of the earliest launch of meaningful and constructive inter-Afghan negotiations leading to an end to the bloody civil war and the formation of an effective nationwide state leadership in Afghanistan," the diplomatic office said.

The Taliban representatives spoke in support of Moscow's active efforts on the track of national reconciliation and highly assessed Russia's role and potential in helping the Afghan people to build a peaceful, independent and economically self-sufficient state, the ministry stressed.
