Kadyrov Condemns US Sanctions Against His Mother, Citing Disregard for Ethical Norms

01 September 2023

Ramzan Kadyrov, the Chechen leader, expressed his strong condemnation of the United States' decision to impose sanctions on his mother, Aimani Kadyrova, and deemed it a deliberate and cynical act that disregards all ethical norms. He wrote about this in his Telegram channel.

"I had already ceased to be surprised by the illogical sanctions decisions of the US and the West. Yet, suddenly, here we are again – my dear mother, now on their list," remarked Ramzan Kadyrov. He emphasized, "The whole world knows that Aimani Kadyrova is exclusively dedicated to charitable endeavors."

In a video shared on his Telegram channel, the Chechen leader issued a demand for the sanctions against his mother to be lifted. He warned that failure to do so would result in US diplomats being barred from visiting European countries and the Russian Federation.

"Well, this situation only gives us more flexibility. If the United States has sanctioned my mother using such questionable methods, then we won't hold ourselves back either. It's important to recognize that various conflicts in the post-Soviet space, including the first and second Chechen campaigns, events in Georgia, and the situation in Ukraine, have been attributed to US involvement. And let's not forget about numerous conflicts worldwide that were initiated under dubious pretexts," Kadyrov expressed. He continued, asserting that American individuals behind such actions have largely evaded accountability, but he emphasized that Russia would not follow the same path. Kadyrov characterized the sanctions imposed against his mother as "having minimal impact" on Russia.

Previously, the United States expanded its sanctions list for Russia, encompassing 11 additional individuals, among them Aimani Kadyrova, Ramzan Kadyrov's mother. The list also featured Muslim Khuchiyev, Chairman of the Chechen Government, Zamid Chalaev, commander of the special police regiment named after Hero of Russia Akhmad-Khadzhi Kadyrov within the Chechen Interior Ministry, and Mansur Soltayev, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Chechen Republic.
