Kazakh President Appoints New Head of Ground Forces for the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has appointed Asan Zhusupov as the new Commander-in-Chief of the country's Ground Forces. This appointment was announced by the presidential press service.

 

"By order of the head of state Asan Kuanyshevich Zhusupov was appointed Commander-in-Chief of Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan," stated in the message.

 

Talgat Koibakov, who had held this position since November 2020, was relieved of his duties by Tokayev's order.

 

Zhusupov previously served as the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan. The 50-year-old military officer graduated from the Almaty Higher Combined Arms Command School named after Marshal I.S. Konev (AVOKU) in 1995 and has held various positions, including commander of a motorized rifle platoon and company, battalion chief of staff of a motorized rifle brigade, and commander of a tank brigade.
