Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed gratitude to the Russian side for its assistance in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus.

"Once again we say 'thank you' to the leadership of the Russian Federation for providing the opportunity to effectively confront the pandemic. I am referring to the Sputnik V vaccine," he said during a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, which is taking place via video conference.

Tokayev also stated that the situation with the spread of coronavirus remains difficult. "The pandemic is still advancing in all states without exception. Let's unite our efforts and fight the pandemic together," the head of the republic said, addressing the participants of the meeting.

"By all projections, COVID-19 disease is becoming seasonal," he said. "It is obvious that the key to success in the fight against the virus is the immunization of citizens. We consider it extremely important to continue cooperation and interaction in this sphere," Tokayev added.

Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan is doing its best to reduce the incidence of the disease among the population and this is primarily due to mass vaccination. "Since February this year, the Republic of Kazakhstan has been actively vaccinating the population with the Russian drug Sputnik V. Thanks to Russia's assistance, the production of this drug has been established in our country. This is a vivid example of successful scientific and industrial cooperation. Such experience is quite possible to scale up and implement in other industries," said the President of Kazakhstan.

Tokayev recalled that Kazakhstan has also developed a local vaccine against the coronavirus QazVac. "Thus, Kazakhstan became one of the ten countries that have their own vaccine. The clinical studies conducted have proven its effectiveness and safety," explained the president of Kazakhstan.
