Kazakhstan and Russia signed an updated agreement on military cooperation

Russian and Kazakh Defense Ministers Sergei Shoigu and Nurlan Yermekbayev signed an updated agreement on military cooperation between the two countries at a meeting in Nur-Sultan on Friday, the press service of the Kazakh Defense Ministry reports.


"Following the meeting, the Ministers of Defense of Kazakhstan and Russia signed an updated treaty on military cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation. After its entry into force, the Treaty between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation on military cooperation of March 28, 1994, the main provisions of which were implemented, " the report reads.


In accordance with the provisions of the updated treaty, military cooperation will be carried out on a wide range of issues, including military education and training, supply of weapons and equipment, participation in joint bilateral and multilateral exercises, military training activities.


"The updated treaty has also been supplemented with new areas and forms of cooperation, which include peacekeeping activities, cooperation within international organizations, countering challenges and threats to regional security, culture and sports," the press service added.


The agency specified that in the development of the treaty provisions, a program of strategic partnership in the military field for a three-year period is being developed. It will define benchmarks to which the partner states will aspire, and will serve as a basis for the preparation of annual plans of joint activities.


As a result of negotiations on Friday, an agreement between the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan and Russia on the order of mutual payments for catering and a plan of bilateral military cooperation between military departments for 2021 were also signed.
