Kazakhstan plans to register Sputnik V vaccine by February 12

Kazakhstan plans to register the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, production of which began at a pharmaceutical complex in Karaganda, by February 12, the press service of the republic's Health Ministry said on Tuesday.


The Kazakh government press service earlier reported that the production of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine was launched at the Karaganda pharmaceutical complex on Monday. A pilot batch of 6,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines produced at the Karaganda pharmaceutical plant was sent to the Russian Federation for quality control. It was reported that the republic plans to begin mass vaccination with the Russian vaccine in February 2021.


The information of the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan notes that "from December 24, 2020, to January 21, 2021, the vaccine will undergo quality control of experimental series in the Gamaleya Research Center, in case of a successful check from January 26 to February 11, 2021, it is planned to register the drug in the Republic of Kazakhstan."


"We plan to complete the registration of the vaccine produced at our site and transfer the first batch to the RDIF by February 12, 2021. The owner of the product and supplier of the vaccine to the Single Distributor SK-Pharmacy LLP is the Russian Direct Investment Fund",  Sergey Baron said, the CEO of Karaganda Pharmaceutical Complex LLP, whose words are quoted by the press service.


It is planned that 80 thousand doses of the Sputnik V vaccine will be produced in February 2021, 150 thousand doses in March and up to 600 thousand doses in April. The ministry said that according to preliminary information, between 6 million and 20 million doses are needed to immunize 20 percent of the population and up to 20 million doses for 50 percent of the population, taking into account the double immunization schedule. Final data on vaccine needs are being compiled. The Ministry of Health is currently preparing a plan to organize and carry out vaccination against COVID-19. Vaccination against COVID-19 will be organized on the basis of the existing inoculation rooms of medical organizations that provide routine preventive vaccinations.
