Kazakhstan Ratifies Law on Cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in Aerial Search and Rescue

03 April

The Senate, the upper house of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, has given approval for the ratification of the intergovernmental agreement with Kyrgyzstan regarding cooperation in aerial search and rescue efforts.

Signed in Bishkek in May 2022, the agreement aims to foster collaboration between the search and rescue services of both nations for the purpose of locating and rescuing passengers and crews of distressed aircraft, in accordance with the standards and recommended practices set forth by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

The agreement is designed to enhance coordination in the realm of aircraft search and rescue operations between neighboring states. Under its provisions, both parties will promptly inform each other about aviation accidents and undertake joint efforts to locate crashed aircraft, passengers, and crews. Additionally, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan will conduct joint exercises involving search and rescue services and engage in the exchange of relevant information.

Prior to this, Kazakhstan had ratified similar agreements on aviation search and rescue cooperation with Russia and China.

Following the Senate's approval of the law for the ratification of the agreement with Kyrgyzstan, it will be submitted to the President of Kazakhstan for signature.
