President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a law on the ratification of an agreement with Uzbekistan on the demarcation of the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan state border. This was reported on Tuesday by the press service of the president of Kazakhstan.
"The head of state signed the law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On ratification of the treaty between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan on the demarcation of the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan state border," the message reads.
The treaty on demarcation of the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan state border was signed in Tashkent in December 2022. In accordance with the agreement, the starting point of the state border between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is the junction point of the state borders of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, and the end point of the borderline is the junction point of the borders of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
The treaty provides for marking the demarcated state borderline on the ground with boundary signs. The passage of the state borderline, location of the boundary markers, their geodesic coordinates, altitude marks and other data of each boundary marker are reflected and specified in annexes to the treaty. At the same time, a separate annex to the treaty reflects the state ownership of islands on the border rivers Keles and Syr Darya, their coordinates and area.
Ratification of the treaty will make it possible to legally secure the marking of the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan state borderline on the ground, complete its international legal formalization and eliminate possible preconditions for the emergence of territorial disputes between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
