The authorities of Kazakhstan do not violate the sanctions of Western countries against Russia and will not take any steps to circumvent them, Chairman of the Senate (upper house of parliament) of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev told reporters on Thursday.
"We are not violating the sanctions of Western states. We will not allow the use of the territory of our country and companies to circumvent the sanctions. This is a clear position of Kazakhstan," Kazinform quoted him as saying when asked about compliance with the Western sanctions against Russia.
He noted that Kazakhstan's authorities will continue to work under this position. "First of all, we take steps in foreign policy that meet national interests," the Senate speaker explained.
Earlier, Chairwoman of the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of Kazakhstan Madina Abylkasymova reported that the authorities of the republic are taking all necessary measures to avoid the risk of imposing the secondary sanctions on the financial sector. According to her, all banks and financial institutions of Kazakhstan have significantly strengthened procedures for compliance with the Western sanctions. The head of the agency noted that Kazakhstan also complies with measures to ensure that its banking system is not used to circumvent the sanctions during any trade transactions.
