Kazakhstan to send observers to Turkmen presidential election

The Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan approved the candidates for observer missions of the CIS and the SCO at the presidential elections in Turkmenistan. This was reported on Friday by the press service of the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan.

 

"The decision of the Central Election Commission approved the candidates of observers from the Republic of Kazakhstan to be sent to participate in the observation of the early presidential elections in Turkmenistan. Four representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan will participate in the observation of the elections in Turkmenistan as part of the observer missions from the CIS and the SCO," the statement said.


On February 11 Turkmenistan's incumbent president, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, said at a meeting of the upper house of parliament that he had made a "difficult decision". The next day, the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda announced that early presidential elections were scheduled for March 12. On February 14, the election campaign started in the country. The son of the incumbent president, Serdar Berdymukhamedov, was registered as the first candidate for head of state from the ruling Democratic Party.
