Kazakhstan will not allow Russian citizens to use "internal" documents

16 March 2020

Russian MFA announced a temporary change in the procedure for crossing the Russian-Kazakh state border from March 16.

"In connection with the World Health Organization's Declaration of the COVID-19 coronavirus as a pandemic, the Republic of Kazakhstan has decided to temporarily change the procedure for crossing the Russian-Kazakh state border for citizens of the Russian Federation," the message reads.

Starting from March 16, Russian citizens are temporarily prohibited from crossing the Russian-Kazakh state border using "internal" documents (passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation; birth certificate for Russians under the age of 14).

"We ask citizens of the Russian Federation to take into account these temporary restrictive measures when planning trips to the Republic of Kazakhstan," the Russian Foreign Ministry urged.
